Everything you need to know about applying for a marriage license in the Town of Oakfield, including requirements, fees, and one-day officiant information.
Getting Your Marriage License
$40 License Fee
Marriage license fee payable to the Town Clerk.
60 Days
Your marriage license is valid for 60 days after it is issued.
24-Hour Waiting Period
The license should be obtained at least 24 hours before the ceremony. The Town currently recommends obtaining it at least 48 hours beforehand.
Appointments Recommended
Appointments are strongly recommended. Town offices are currently open Monday–Thursday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM, and closed Friday.

Before You Apply
Before visiting the Town Clerk’s Office, make sure you have the required information and documentation needed to complete your marriage license application.
What to Bring
- Valid government-issued photo identification
- Your Social Security number
- Required personal and parental information
- Information about any prior marriages, if applicable
- Marriage license fee
ONE-DAY OFFICIANT
Have Someone Special Perform Your Ceremony
New York State allows an individual to obtain authorization to solemnize a specific marriage.
Submit an Application
The officiant submits the required application to the same Town or City Clerk that issued the couple’s marriage license.
Pay the $25 Fee
Perform the Ceremony
The licensed officiant may perform that marriage anywhere within New York State during the validity period of the marriage license.
After the Ceremony
The officiant must complete the required information on the original marriage license and return the completed license to the Town Clerk’s Office within 5 days of the ceremony.
